Purpose

Let There Be Light — the more candidates reveal about themselves and their visions for the KWVA, the better KWVA members can judge their fitness to hold office.

This two-phase, ever changing, nonpartisan web site (www.kwvavoterinfo.org) devotes its resources to the 2008 KWVA National election for the following purposes:

·        Entrust each candidate for KWVA National office with a unique page and site-specific e-mail address (CandidateName@kwvavoterinfo.org) to expand and revise his or her campaign statement printed in The Graybeards.

·        Offer KWVA members an opportunity to send private e-mail queries to a KWVA National candidate (CandidateName@KWVAvoterinfo.org) about that candidate’s positions on issues.

·        Allow KWVA National candidates to update periodically their single file resume and campaign statements based on their appraisal of changing campaign issues such as those brought forward by other candidates, e-mail queries from KWVA members, or other changes in the 2008 campaign landscape.

Because of space constraints, candidates can only make general statements about their vision for KWVA in The Graybeards.  However; On KWVAvoterinfo.org candidates may lay out specifics about important issues facing the organization.  After receiving e-mails from KWVA members, candidates may choose to revise their positions on certain issues.

By allowing candidates for KWVA office to revise periodically and update their resumes as they respond to e-mails and other candidate’s positions, KWVAvoterinfo.org becomes a lively site that reflects changes in the 2008 election cycle landscape.  As each candidate responds to questions and other candidate positions, KWVA members get a clearer idea of how the candidate will conduct himself if elected.  In short, we believe KWVAvoterinfo.org gives candidates an active campaign platform and KWVA members better insight about the candidates.

Welcome to KWVA voter information Web Site.

This dynamic web-site offers each KWVA National candidate a page to post his resume with picture and a site-specific e-mail address to communicate privately with KWVA members. The webmaster will periodically update candidate pages as candidates revise their resumes in response to queries by KWVA members and positions taken by other candidates.

Two-Phase Site

This site (www.KWVAvoterinfo.org) will be active prior to the 2008 KWVA election in the following two phases:

1.      Pre-Election Cycle Phase. (7-1-2007 through 12-1-2007)

2.      Election Cycle Phase. (1-1-2008 through 6-1-2008)

Pre-Election Cycle Phase

The 2008 Pre-Election Cycle begins on July 1, 2007 and ends on December 1, 2007.

During the pre-election cycle, eligible KWVA members who are considering whether to run in 2008 or who want to fine tune their position statements before the election cycle may submit a candidate’s information page to web master.  If KWVA membership verifies the candidate’s eligibility, the web master will post the candidate’s information and assign the candidate a site-based e-mail address.  The web master will update candidate postings on a monthly basis during the pre-election cycle. The webmaster will delete all candidate postings on or about December 1, 2007 in preparation for election cycle postings beginning January 1, 2008.  All postings must adhere to the Rules of Conduct for this site.

Election Cycle Phase

The Election Cycle begins on January 1, 2008 and ends on June 1, 2008.

Only certified candidates for KWVA National office may post their resume during the election cycle.

This site is open to every KWVA National candidate.  The webmaster will assign each candidate a special page to post pictures, biographies, and his or her vision for the future of KWVA.  Candidates may expand or revise their original statements and may make additional observations or statements about their reasons for running and their views for the future of the KWVA.  The web master will assign each candidate a site-specific e-mail address (CandidateName@kwvavoterinfo.org) so that KWVA members may send messages with questions or observations.

Rules of Conduct:

The webmaster will refuse to post statements that violate the rules of decorum in Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised (RONR 10th ed.).

By design, this web site gives KWVA National candidates a platform to inform KWVA members about their positions, not a vehicle to air grievances.  In that vein, we expect candidates to observe the following rules:

·        Avoid critical remarks about another candidate, a KWVA officer, or a KWVA member.

·        Avoid criticism of past actions by the KWVA, its officers, or its house organ (The Graybeards).

·        Avoid referring to any other candidate by name.

·        Avoid reacting angrily to hateful e-mail that candidates are sure to receive if they take a position on any controversial issue.  Candidates may answer hate e-mail privately, but should never attempt to post a negative response to their page.

·        Once a candidate stakes out a position on an issue, other candidates may also state where they stand on that issue.   But they may not refer to the other candidate by name or state that another candidate has taken a different position.
